What's to dread? White people with dreadlocks.

Now I am going to tread carefully on this absolute minefield of societal faux pas as I tentatively approach the topic of white people with dreadlocks.

In all honesty, I do not want to offend anyone at all and I definitely do not feel like I have the required knowledge to even have too strong of an opinion on the matter (even though I did take the piss a little bit in an earlier blog post about The White Rasta) so I am going to avoid writing anything too controversial here and completely sit on the fence guys.

Here is a rather strong 'open letter' from a writer on Thought Catalog who feels that it is extremely culturally inappropriate for white people to have dreadlocks. Here is a slightly less opinionated post on The Root that weighs up both sides of the argument. Here is just a rather light-hearted and down right funny take on all those stereotypes that we associate with white guys and dreadlocks from Buzzfeed. Right all bases covered. Now I can sit quite happily out here on my fence*winky face*.

I do not want to to delve into the realms of what should be deemed culturally appropriate with this hair style. I don't want to discuss culture stealing.  I am going to be totally shallow. I mean like really one dimensional here. No hidden agenda. I'm going to purely base this post on a Pinterest binge that I did recently. Only looking at aesthetics. And say 'look how preeeeeetttyyy these hair styles are':
Now I am not saying that I want this hairstyle...
I mean I would love it....
...could I get away with it?
Nah no way...
I always thought dreadlocks on white people were limited to those wearing dodgy kaftans who described themselves as 'spirited' but dayum these girls look good!

It looks good on brunettes too...
But seriously look how preeeeeetttyy...

To make this post a little less superficial and a lot more interesting I've included the video below because this guy knows what's up and he speaks a lot of sense.

  1. That's horrible. Do you even have any respect for other cultures? Besides, it really doesn't look good. It just looks like tangles. Damn, white people be taking everything! Wasn't taking countries and killing natives enough for ya'll?!

    1. What is your problem?! For your information, nordic people also weared dredlocks... We can go further in the ancient history, first men on Earth, neanderthals had also dreadlocks...So shut up, ok? Do some research first... Are you a racist or what?! Who are you to judge what is to wear or not...? Nobody!
