Clarting about with the brumies: Birmingham & McBusted

I touched upon my trip to Birmingham in my last blog entry but only briefly so I thought that I would write a more comprehensive run down of my weekend away in this here entry now.

Leaving super early from Ipswich train station on Saturday morning we grabbed a coffee with bleary eyes and sleepy heads and had a pretty uneventful train-tube- train journey to The Midlands. I never realised how lucky we have it in East Anglia in regards to how warm it can get and how dry it can stay because although it obviously rains (I live in England so of course it rains) it rarely rains like it does in Birmingham apparently on the one weekend we decided to visit!
Being in the city for only 24 hours meant that we didn't have a crazy amount of time to explore and one of the main things that we wanted to accomplish during our time in Birmingham was to find the Holy Grail of trainers that Sam has yet to find anywhere else. Now I love my girlfriend to bits but my goodness she is fussy when it comes to her footwear, her birthday was on January 1st and she had yet to spend any of her birthday money because of her Goldilocks quest for the perfect trainer (too bright, too dark, too chunky etc etc). Upon entering the Bull Ring shopping centre I was overjoyed at the sight of so many trainer shops there were Foot Lockers, JDs, Offices aplenty...surely she would find the perfect pair here.

Well she did find the perfect pair...in the first shop...but then we visited 603847 other shops...to return to the first one...and buy the first pair she saw!
We then headed over to our hotel to chill for a bit before going out for dinner and the gig. Dinner was to be had at Cafe Rouge where we had wine, bread and steak and it was where we decided that, being the cultural duo that we were, we would try les escargots for the first time....the jury is still out on eating slugs, sorry France.
We grabbed a couple of cocktails post- dinner to get into the swing of things and then walked over to the arena. As I mentioned in my previous blog entry, I have been a McFly fan for the past decade and so when sneakily checking their set list online a couple of weeks ago I was excited to see a more equal combination of McFly/ Busted songs on this tour and obviously the new McBusted tracks too. I guess a lot of people have the impression that McBusted aren't a 'cool' band to like (and I mean "cool" in very inverted commas) but I think it is their dorkiness and lack of giving a shit on being cool or not that I actually like about them so much.

After two rather unassuming support acts the stage was set for the main act and the stage was most definitely set. We found ourselves looking at a giant, and fully functioning, old- school arcade machine and then the opening bars of Air Guitar starting blaring out. From then on I sang (badly) to the whole set and the 2 hour show completely flew by. I don't tend to take many photos/ videos at gigs because I like to enjoy it while I'm there without watching it through a phone plus the grainy images and tinny sounding videos are never worth the hassle so here are some photos below from Dougie, Danny and Tom's instagram accounts respectively of the gig/ arena:

Our train was leaving the city at lunchtime the next day so we had time to grab a quick bite to eat before we left. If you ever want a hearty burger that tastes just like heaven in a bun then get yourself to a Five Guys burger joint. Seriously, I've never had such a bespoke burger made for me and it was absolutely huge, the chips are unreal and the drinks machine has every possible option that you could ever want, the staff were so friendly and the speakers blaring Bob Dylan and the Beach Boys added to the experience.
I will definitely be heading back to Birmingham in the future because I barely had time to see any of it during my short stay, I just hope that the rain holds out the next time!
